InterACT Youth Theatre Workshops

InterACT is a humanities-based workshop series or theatre "intensives" designed to run from one day to one week, depending upon the school’s needs and scheduling availability. Offered to schools in Nevada and California from February to September, these workshops are highly interactive and feature activities to help students understand the many timeless themes of Shakespeare’s works, as well as the world of theatre as a whole.  Combining the skills of a licensed, classroom teacher and seasoned theatre professionals, InterACT instructors carefully craft each workshop to meet the specific needs of the students they are serving.  Students engage in acting games and discussions and work towards the culminating performance of a selection of scenes.

This year's workshops will focus on either A Midsummer Night's Dream text or Romeo & Juliet . We are performing A Midsummer Night's Dream in our D.G. Menchetti Young Shakespeare free summer performance series as well as in our evening ticketed program.  This program allows students to have the opportunity to develop a deep understanding of the work of Shakespeare, as they move from being audience members to Shakespeare scholars, to performers.

The workshops are designed to align specifically with the Nevada State Learning Standards for Theatre and English Language Arts.  Therefore, the workshops supplement standard classroom learning and help fill the void of arts education that has developed in most schools due to lack of support, funding, and skilled artistic practitioners.

InterACT is also designed to grow and change with the students.  The content of the workshops varies from year-to-year, so that the instructors can establish and maintain a relationship with teachers and students as they return with new and exciting material each year.

It is our hope that the InterACT workshops will make learning fun and accessible and serve to not only enrich each student's life, but to also create the next generation of theater-goers.
