The Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival, which draws more than 30,000 attendees from all over the world every year, is possible in part because of the atmosphere created by its volunteers that surpasses the audience’s expectations year-after-year. With more than 200 volunteers each season, the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival offers behind-the-scenes access that provides an unforgettable and exciting opportunity for volunteers.

Volunteer applications are now available online at www.LakeTahoeShakespeare.com for this year’s Festival, taking the stage July 11 – Aug. 23, 2009. Featuring a new in-house directorial and artistic team, stage design, music series and two thrilling Shakespeare performances, this landmark season provides volunteers a chance to participate in what has become one of Lake Tahoe’s most popular summer events.

"The summer season comes alive with the Festival that serves as a cornerstone of summer events at Lake Tahoe,” said Catherine Atack, executive director of the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival. "The Festival provides audiences the unique combination of a stunning lakeside location, gourmet food and drink services provided by Shakespeare’s Kitchen and performances seven nights a week throughout the six week schedule. Focusing on the rich humor of this season’s comedic performances, our hope is to provide Festival-goers with a lighthearted escape and a refreshing outdoor setting to spend time recharging with friends and family. We look forward to welcoming back our loyal fans and introducing first-timers to the magic that is summer at the lake."

The 37th annual production is looking for volunteers to fill the following positions: amphitheatre host; VIP host; greeters; merchandise sales assistant; box office crew; work crew; ticket takers and Young Shakespeare assistants. The volunteer staff members are offered many benefits including earning free Festival tickets, souvenir Festival merchandise and inclusion in the annual program, all while supporting the arts.

This season the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival alternates Shakespeare’s delectably indecent Measure for Measure, the hysterically devious duos of Much Ado About Nothing and the premiere of the Urban Village Music Series, featuring rotating artists each Monday night.

Tickets are now available online at www.LakeTahoeShakespeare.com or by calling 800-74-SHOWS (800-747-4697) and start at $22 for open seating tiers and range in options up to the Premium and Reserved seating sections. Information about the 2009 season, membership, volunteer opportunities and sponsorships are also available online.

The Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established for the cultural benefit and enjoyment of all residents and visitors to Lake Tahoe and Reno. Annually drawing more than 30,000 attendees from across the country to the specially built Warren Edward Trepp Stage along the north shore of Lake Tahoe, the Festival is an advocate for producing the finest cultural events in the region. The Festival’s community outreach includes an annual educational program, InterACT, designed to educate future generations on the importance of the arts, theater and music and the D.G. Menchetti Young Shakespeare Program, a free series of performances produced specifically for the younger audience presented free of charge during the summer throughout Lake Tahoe and Northern Nevada.
